Artist residencies

The NJ Poetry Out Loud Residency places professional poets and performers in the classroom. The residencies, which are four days or longer, make a significant impact on the way students comprehend and relate to poetry and provide teachers with a valuable professional development opportunity.

Teachers have praised the residency's innovative structure and how it has impacted students, improved public speaking and presentation skills while increasing self-confidence and building community in the classroom.

Residencies and costs vary in length and format. Limited grant funding is available.

NJ Poetry Out Loud residencies wake today’s students to the power of ancient and contemporary voices in poetry; they discover, through finding a poem that tugs their heart or sensibilities, that they are not alone in their experiences of jealousy, joy, love, loss and confusion. In taking that poem to heart and sharing it with classmates, teachers, families and larger audiences, they discover resources of strength, poise and insight they did not realize they possessed.
